Putting students on the path to glittering careers
With a teaching team made up of professional performers, it’s little wonder Rooftop Studios is a great springboard for those looking to ‘make it’ in the performing arts industry; whether shining onstage or in creative roles backstage or behind the camera.
Principal Laura Keeling studied at the Arts Educational Schools, London and saw her band ‘Kickangel’ signed by Mercury records, releasing debut single ‘Misunderstood’ in 2001. Studio Manager Claire Simpson was a Rooftop pupil before training at The Urdang Academy and spending 10 years as a performer for the Walt Disney Company. Alongside running the studio Claire still assists in casting for Disneyland Paris and manages events and direct shows for Disney characters events across Europe. Their combined experience makes Rooftop perfectly placed to guide students on their journey with many alumni winning places at prestigious performing arts schools.
2023 sees a record twelve students all set to take the next step toward a glittering career. Several will head off to Birmingham’s BOAS Academy – including Jessica Creswell, who will study Directing, Scriptwriting and Screen Acting; Luke Jones to study Music Technology; Jude Marsh studying Screencraft (acting, writing and directing) and Daisy Heyes to study Musical Theatre.
Meanwhile, three students will start the 2-year BTEC performing arts course at the The Jill Clewes Academy for Theatre Arts – including Jess Davies, Sid Jones and Lara Castle. Faith Barrow has been accepted into Shockout’s BA Hons Dance Course while Cassidy Kempton-Lindsay will take a Diploma in Professional Dance at The Hammond, and James Tonge will embark on a 3 Year Diploma in Musical Theatre at Laine Theatre Arts.
Ciara Wright is undertaking a 3-year specialist hair and makeup degree for stage and screen, while Isabella Troiano is doing her teacher training at the studio; taking on her own classes from September alongside performing at Wish Upon a Princess and character parties, and further teacher training with IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association). Laura says:
“We are so proud to see students embark on careers in all aspects of the industry – including stage, screen, music, and teaching, which is testament to the studio delivering all-round training and keeping up to date with the ever-changing demands of the industry. All the kids who pass through Rooftops feel like family and, whether they go onto careers in entertainment or use their stills to support more mainstream education and careers, we love being part of their journey.”
