Learn with the stars with our online West End workshops
Following the huge success of our online West End Workshops back in the first lockdown, we’re planning a new series of masterclasses thoughout February and March.
Suitable for youngsters of all abilities – whether they’re seasoned performers or just starting out – the workshops will offer a fun, engaging way to hone skills while picking up tips from the pros. With all of the stars leading the sessions having huge lists of credits from stage, film and television under their belts, they are perfectly placed to inspire and engage youngsters who love to sing and dance.
The first workshop – on Friday, 19th February at 7pm – will centre on the hit musical ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’, led Luke Bayer. Based on the 2011 TV documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16; the story follows how a teenager overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and comes out of the darkness to become a drag queen. During his time playing alternate Jamie in the Original West End Cast, Luke performed on Children in Need, at West End Live 2018, at Pride in London, appeared on the Original Cast Album and won a BroadwayWorld Award for his performance. He will share his vast experience as he teaches song and dance routines from the show.
Friday 26th February will see Coronation Street actress Lottie Henshall – who starred as Jade Rowan in the soap – take centre stage. In addition to her recent role on the cobbles, Lottie travelled globally in the UK & International Tour of Mamma Mia, playing Lisa/first cover Sophie, and was also cast in the UK tour of ‘Our House’. During her workshop, Lottie will teach routines and songs from both shows before leading a Q&A session at the end.
Next in the series, on Friday 5th March, will be West End Star Christina Modestou leading a session on ‘Six’ – a musical retelling of the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives. Christina played Anne Boleyn in the 2017 Arts Theatre production, playing the same role on the cast recording. The workshop will consist of learning routines and songs from Six and the numerous other shows Christina has appeared in.
The final workshop in the run focuses on the smash Broadway musical ‘Hamilton’, which blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and show tunes to tell the story of one of America’s foremost founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton. West End Star and Olivier nominee Cleve September will lead the Friday 12th March session; having played both John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Victoria Palace Theatre production of the musical. With Cleve nominated for an Olivier for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Hamilton, the workshop is in the best possible hands!
