Rooftops students sing their hearts out at the Stone Food & Drink Festival…

The first weekend in October is a red-letter day in the foodie calendar, as Stone plays host to its annual food & drink festival; drawing thousands of visitors into town. This year, the weekend was a big deal for the Rooftop Studios team, too – as students took to the stage at the festival to perform live in front of crowds for the first time in almost two years.

Students from our Stage Academy and Vocal Smash singing troupes entertained the crowds before the main bands took to the stage later in the afternoon; performing a mix of show tunes and chart hits to hep warm up the audience. Dance students also got in on the act with junior troupe and solo ballet performances. We were hugely proud of how professionally all of the students performed – especially as it’s the first time they have sung in front of a live audience since the start of the pandemic.

Needless to say, the students loved having the chance to show off all their hard work and the feedback from the audience was fantastic – here’s what some of our parents and students had to say:

“It was amazing to see all the children back on stage at the food and drink festival. They all oozed so much confidence and it was clear to see just how much they had all missed performing. Us as a family thoroughly enjoyed the show and want to thank all the amazing teachers at rooftops which make it possible for the children to have the skills to perform.” Rebecca Taaffe

“I had so much fun at the festival !! I loved being on stage and also performing with my friends. Thank you rooftops for giving me the opportunity to perform again after so long.” Maria Kelly

“Performing at the festival was so much fun. I was so happy to finally be able to get back on the stage and perform to a real audience. Despite there not being a massive crowd due to rain, we still got big cheers after our performance which was so nice to hear after not being able to put on a proper show for so long. It was great to finally be able to get back out there and show everyone what we’re good at!” – Jess Creswell

“I just love seeing Jess on stage… when she’s up there she just beams, shows confidence and genuinely looks so proud to be part of the Rooftops family. As a mum I’m of course bursting with pride too; seeing Jess bounce around in a tutu age 3 in 2009, successfully auditioning for TV commercials, achieving Distinctions in LAMDA, absorbed in Tap & ballet and this year strutting in ‘Six’, just loving life and aiming towards her dreams is amazing. We’re so thankful to RT for capturing her attention, guiding, supporting and nurturing Jess to become the young performer she is! From a chaperones point of view, it was so heartwarming to see and hear the children… junior and senior so united…excited… like ‘bottles of pop’, giving each other hugs of support, ‘whoops and cheers’ and then hearing the crowd applaud all of the children and Staff for their hard work and polished performances is the icing on the cake… quite contagious and electrifying really!” – Ginny Creswell

“It was amazing to be able to perform in our home town at this years food and drink festival. The weather was rubbish but it didn’t stop people watching us on the stage. Thank you Rooftop Studios for arranging the performance. Our friends have told us they loved the show” Sophie and James Tonge

“What a brilliant performance Rooftop Studios gave to Stone food and drink festival. It was great to see them back on stage in front of a live although slightly damp audience. The students were as amazing as ever. As parents we would like to say a huge thank you to Team Rooftops for making it happen” Will and Emma Tonge

At Rooftop Studios, we believe in giving our students the chance to perform in front of a live audience as often as possible; to help consolidate the skills they have learnt, build confidence and show off all their hard work.
