Rooftops’ Maria Kelly lands role in professional production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’

A 9-year-old performing arts student from Stone stage school Rooftop Studios has landed a role in a professional performance at Stoke’s New Vic theatre over the festive period.

Maria Kelly is one of just six local young performers chosen to join ‘The Young Company’ aimed at offering youngsters the chance to work with theatre industry professionals to develop their performance skills and perform in front of an audience. Maria will perform as part of an ensemble of ‘Flower Ballerinas’, school children and a smaller version of Alice; making full use of the skills she has honed at Rooftop Studios over the years.

Studio Director, Laura Keeling, says:

“We can’t wait to see Maria perform in Alice in Wonderland. She really is part of our ‘Rooftop Family’ having first attended our Baby Dance class at 6 months old!

“Maria is hugely talented and hard-working; attending Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Vocal Smash, Acting Through Song, Lamda, Stage Academy, Street Dance, Rock & Pop School and Acro classes. A confident and seasoned performer, she regularly takes lead roles in our own studio shows and we are hugely proud to be a part of her journey. There’s lots more to come from this young lady – she’s certainly a rising star!”
